Machinist S&F
Machinist Speeds & Feeds is a local-first machining calculator for RPM, surface speed, and feed rate.
What does the app calculate?
The app calculates:
- spindle RPM from cutting speed and tool diameter
- feed rate for end mills, drills, and turning work
- achieved cutting speed when max RPM limits the target value
- local saved setups for repeat jobs
Which operations are supported?
Version 1.0 supports:
- end mill calculations
- drill calculations
- turning calculations
Does it work in imperial and metric units?
Yes. The app supports both imperial and metric workflows.
Why are target RPM and applied RPM different?
If you set a machine max RPM, the app can clamp the theoretical RPM to your machine limit. In that case, the app shows both the target RPM and the applied RPM, plus the achieved cutting speed based on the clamp.
Are the material presets official cutting data?
No. Built-in material presets are starting references for common shop situations. Always confirm insert or toolmaker guidance, holder rigidity, coolant strategy, radial engagement, and your own machine limits before cutting.
Does the app replace CAM, tooling catalogs, or shop approval?
No. Machinist Speeds & Feeds is a quick setup aid. It does not replace CAM simulation, tooling catalogs, process engineering review, or machine safety procedures.
Are my saved setups synced anywhere?
No. Saved setups remain local to the current device in version 1.0.
